Camille Pissarro
Camille Pissarro (1830–1903) was a French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painter, widely regarded as a central figure in the development of modern art. Known as the “father of Impressionism,” he played a crucial role in uniting and mentoring younger artists such as Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, and Paul Gauguin. Pissarro was deeply committed to painting directly from nature, emphasizing everyday rural landscapes and scenes of ordinary life. Pissarro’s work is characterized by loose brushwork, subtle color harmonies, and a keen sensitivity to light and atmosphere. Over time, he experimented with different styles, including Pointillism and Neo-Impressionism, while maintaining a strong focus on structure and composition. Notable works such as The Red Roofs and his Paris street series reveal his ability to balance realism with modern innovation. Today, Camille Pissarro is celebrated for his artistic versatility, influence on fellow artists, and lasting contribution to Impressionism and beyond.
