Preface
Beauty is a mirror of the times and a torch of national spirit. Guided by Xi Jinping's Thought on Culture, and at a critical stage in the deepening construction of a culturally strong nation, the 'Pursuing Beauty — Joint Exhibition of Artworks from the Two New Cultural Bases' has emerged. This exhibition brings together nearly 200 fine art works from national and provincial-level 'Two New Cultural' cluster practice bases. It is not only a vivid practice of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles' deployment to 'extend work outreach and expand coverage,' but also a concentrated showcase of the 'Two New Cultural' groups in the new era practicing the principle of 'serving the people and serving socialism.' It offers a spirited visual tribute to the prosperity of socialist art.
General Secretary Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized the need to 'view new literary and artistic organizations and new literary and artistic groups with a fresh perspective, and unite and attract them with new policies and methods,' guiding them to become 'a vital force for the prosperity of socialist literature and art.' As a bridge connecting the Party and government with literary and artistic workers, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles has established 31 practical bases for 'New Literature and Art Organizations and Groups' in phases. This is an innovative measure that leverages organizational and professional advantages to address the problem of 'lack of support and platforms.' This joint exhibition is based on this work foundation, allowing artists from practical bases across the country to overcome regional barriers, communicate through their brushes, and convey emotions through their paintings. It not only demonstrates the construction achievements of the bases in 'establishing mechanisms, attracting resources, and initiating projects,' but also practices the central government's requirement to 'do a good job in uniting, guiding, and serving.' It has become a vivid carrier for building a new system for 'New Literature and Art Organizations and Groups' work in the new era.
Against the backdrop of the comprehensive advancement of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the accelerated construction of Shenzhen as a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, this exhibition carries a special mission. As a window for the mutual appreciation of Chinese and foreign civilizations, the Greater Bay Area, and Shenzhen, as a pioneer in building a "model of urban civilization," exhibit cultural traits of "daring to venture and experiment, openness, and inclusiveness" that highly resonate with the innovative vitality of the "New Arts and Cultural" groups. The exhibition responds to the call of the "Cultural Power" strategy through art, integrating the "culture + technology" Bay Area ecosystem, the ecological beauty of "mountains and seas connected to the city," and the co-creation vision of a "humanistic Bay Area" into the works. It not only vividly illustrates Shenzhen’s cultivation of "new cultural productivity," but also represents the conscious efforts of the "New Arts and Cultural" groups to root themselves in the era and celebrate development achievements — recording the grand course of reform and opening-up, capturing tender moments of people's happy lives, exploring the infinite possibilities of artistic expression, and fully demonstrating the active role of this "vital force" in the flourishing of socialist literature and art.
The exhibited works cover diverse types such as Chinese painting, oil painting, and printmaking, with each piece embodying the artist's commitment to a 'people-centered' creative approach and their pursuit of 'creative transformation and innovative development.' From portraying the grand narratives of national development to expressing the delicate touch of local sentiment, from upholding and innovating traditional brushwork to integrating technological elements across disciplines, these works not only demonstrate a high level of 'profound thought, exquisite artistry, and excellent craftsmanship,' but also attest to the responsibility of the 'new literary and artistic' groups as an 'important force in building a culturally strong nation.' They vividly reflect the Chinese Federation of Literary and Art Circles' philosophy of 'inspiring talent through work and allowing talent to achieve great work.'
We hope that through this exhibition, we can not only build a platform for art exchange across regions and bases, but also further unite and rally the broad group of 'new literary and artistic' workers to listen to and follow the Party, strengthening Shenzhen's exemplary leading role in the work of 'new literary and artistic' initiatives. We aim to let artistic achievements empower the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area, let cultural forces support the construction of a pilot demonstration zone, and let the innovative vitality of 'new literary and artistic' endeavors fully flourish in the cultural and artistic fields of the new era.
May we here, together, move towards beauty. In the symphony of brushwork, colors, and innovative thinking, we feel the resolute steps of a nation advancing towards a cultural powerhouse and witness the determined journey of contemporary artists forging new heights of Chinese culture with outstanding works — this is precisely the best response of art to our era, and also a heartfelt tribute of the 'two new aspects of literature and art' to national rejuvenation.
