Moment of Glory
Dafen Artist: Luo Minghu
Luo Minghu's artistic journey began in the Miao villages of Qiannan, Guizhou. From a young age, he displayed extraordinary artistic talent, exploring a wide range of art forms on his own, including calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, watercolor, and oil painting, developing his interests in an unrestrained and eclectic manner. During his studies away from home, he was fortunate to meet a mentor, Teacher Li Baishan, who emphasized hands-on teaching. Following his mentor's guidance, he participated in a series of mural and design projects. These experiences not only rigorously honed his artistic skills but also greatly broadened his horizons, allowing him to see the vast world beyond the studio. From then on, integrating artistic creation with practical needs became the hallmark of his creative wisdom.

In 2005, Luo Minghu unexpectedly read a report in a newspaper about 'Shenzhen entrepreneurs buying paintings from the US, with the works originating from Dafen,' and was instantly fascinated, deciding resolutely to head south. Soon, he began to see the benefits of the early training he received from Teacher Li. At that time, Dafen's art market was mainly focused on export-oriented oil painting orders, and Luo Minghu's solid foundation in traditional Chinese painting allowed him to start developing his own competitive advantage. This was not just an expansion of painting genres; more importantly, he applied the thinking, aesthetics, and techniques of Chinese painting to various orders, which enabled him to quickly establish his footing. He devoted his energy to the weight and touch of the brush, the blending of colors, and the rhythm of the composition. In 2009, he keenly sensed the e-commerce trend and became one of the first in Dafen to sell oil paintings online. While his peers crowded into copying famous works, he chose the path of abstract painting: 'We want to create works with formal logic and a language of color.' He experimented with mixing various materials to create special textures and infused the spirit of ink painting onto the canvas of oil paintings, a venture that received a positive market response.

In 2010, Luo Minghu established 'Haoye Gallery,' conveying a sense of vastness 'under the sky, above the plains.' He believesThe most moving aspect of art should not be solitary admiration, but rather the warm resonance it creates with countless souls in the human world. He emphasized that his works focus on the combination of painting language and subject matter, using visual imagery to express himself and depict any scenes he likes. His creations may be difficult to define by a single style, ranging from abstract paintings that focus on the logic of form to 'guohua on canvas' that blend the artistic conception of ink painting with the texture of oil paint. He continuously pushes the boundaries of art, innovatively using mixed media to explore the expression of painting language.

In addition, Luo Minghu'sArtistic creation is gradually resonating in sync with the times, his thematic works have become invaluable visual archives documenting social development. In 2014, he won the Gold Award at the 10th Anniversary Oil Painting Creation Competition of the Dafen 'National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base' with his work 'Dream Chaser.' 'Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow' depicts, in a series of paintings, Dafen Village’s transformation from a copying base to a hub of original creation; 'Nanling 1983' captures a historic moment in the reform of rural collective ownership in Shenzhen; 'Luohu Railway Station 1980' uses an iconic building to metaphorically reflect the pioneering spirit of the Special Economic Zone moving forward fearlessly. In his view,Painting is the flow of intuition and the sediment of emotion. He tried to use his skills to capture the rhythm of different scenes, transforming what he saw with his eyes and felt in his heart onto the canvas, guiding viewers to see a unique world of colors.

Through gradual exploration, Luo Minghu created the representative "Rise and Fall" series. This series is dominated by deep shades of blue, symbolizing the vast sky and the deep sea. The figures in the paintings float in the water, each in different poses, some gazing upward, others staring intently, closely connected with nature, exploring the inner tranquility of life amidst turbulent surroundings. Different viewers standing before this series will have different feelings, which often brings a sense of surprise. On one occasion, a young boy about to study abroad lingered for a long time in front of the work "Drift," and ultimately, he and his mother purchased the painting, hoping that the "relaxation and ease" depicted could accompany him across the distant seas. Such surprises are an inexhaustible driving force for Luo Minghu to continue creating new works.
