In the creation of this watercolor painting, the artist tried a novel idea, using a vague and abstract painting method, using a combination of gray tones and black and white to present a different visual effect. The bold use of new mediums reveals a different side of watercolor. Breaking through the traditional thin painting watercolor painting method, the artist was previously inspired by the Tempera painting method, so when creating this work, he used sandstone and Dunhuang clay as the base, and then dyed it with watercolor, so that the picture presents layers of color layers, giving the work a sense of heaviness. This unique choice of materials is designed to reflect the vicissitudes and long history of Dunhuang.
In the picture, the various Dunhuang mural symbols are like mysterious passwords, they are intertwined and tell ancient stories. The use of sandstone and Dunhuang clay adds a sense of simplicity and authenticity, as if allowing the viewer to touch the traces of history. Hou Hongyan , born in February 1982, from Jieyang, Guangdong. He is a member of the Guangdong Artists Association, a director of the Jieyang Artists Association, the vice president of the Jieyang Artists Shenzhen Branch, a member of the Shenzhen Yantian District Art Association, and a member of the Dafen Artists Association. In 2000, he graduated from an art school with a major in fine arts. 2000-2003 Studied oil painting in Guangzhou. Since 2003, he has been engaged in oil painting in Shenzhen.
