Dafen is a natural village in Buji Town,with an area of 0.77 square kilometers and only more than 300 indigenous residents,mainly living by growing rice,with a per capita annual income of less than 300 yuan.With the arrival of the special cultural industry of oil painting,as well as the continuous expansion of market demand and the improvement of the popularity of Dafen Village,more and more painters,painters and art dealers have gathered here to produce and sell oil paintings in large quantities,and the oil painting industry in Dafen Village has gradually formed its initial prototype.
Hong Kong art dealer Huang Jiang settled in Dafen Village
In August 1989,Huang Jiang,a Hong Kong art dealer,brought 26 painters to Dafen Village,Buji Town,Shenzhen,to rent a house and set up an oil painting workshop.With the help of low rent and labor costs at that time,oil paintings were copied and reproduced,purchased and sold,thus bringing this special cultural industry into Dafen Village.

Dafen Oil Painting Village was the first comprehensive environmental improvement and transformation
In the first half of 1998,the governments of Longgang District and Buji invested 10 million yuan to start a large-scale road environment renovation in Dafen Oil Painting Village.

The first street of oil painting in Dafen Oil Painting Village was completed
In March 1999,the first oil painting street of Dafen Oil Painting Village was completed and put into use,becoming the first street market in Dafen where galleries gathered,which led to the formation of Dafen industrial agglomeration.At that time,there were more than 50 oil painting stores in Dafen Oil Painting Village.
Dafen Oil Painting Village Art Industry Association was established
In November 2004,under the joint promotion of the government and the leading enterprises in the Dafen Oil Painting Village,the Dafen Art Industry Association of Longgang District,Shenzhen was officially established,with Huang Jiang as the first president.

The management office of Dafen Oil Painting Village was established
In March 2005,the Longgang District Government established the Dafen Oil Painting City Construction Office,which was renamed the Dafen Oil Painting Village Management Office on April 14 of the same year.

Dafen Oil Painting Village Public Rental Housing
In June 2006,the construction project of public rental housing in Dafen Oil Painting Village was officially launched,and a groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 15.It was completed and put into use in May 2007 with a total of 268 housing units.

In May 2007,Dafen Art Museum was completed and put into use,which is currently the first supporting art museum in the art industry park in China.

"Dafen Lisa"was unveiled in the Shenzhen exhibition area of the best practice area of the World Expo
In May 2010,Dafen Oil Painting Village participated in the Shanghai World Expo on behalf of Shenzhen as a case of"Urban Best Practice Area",and the"Dafen Lisa"art installation composed of 999 pictures painted by 507 artists was brilliantly unveiled at the Shanghai World Expo.

In July 2016,Charlie Pettisoni,Deputy Mayor of Barbizon City,received the delegation on behalf of the Barbizon Municipal Government,and signed the"Dafen-Barbizon Art Friendship Agreement"with the representatives of Dafen Oil Painting Village at the city hall.

The 20th anniversary of the Dafen Oil Painting Village Branch of China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industry Expo and Trade Fair is a memorable milestone.
