Foreword

The pulse of art has been passed down from generation to generation,and it always bursts out with new light in the collision of tradition and modernity.From Xu Beihong's enlightenment ideal of reshaping national aesthetics with realism, to Dai Ze's exploration of building an art education system,to Jin Shangyi's ice-breaking journey of reconstructing the contemporary plastic language system, the steps of three generations of artists have connected the century-long quest of modern art education in China.On this "road to come", there are not only the ideal torches of the enlighteners, but also the pioneering footprints of the inheritors, and the innovation code of the reformers.

Mr. Jin Shangyi's artistic path is a path of continuous exploration and innovation.He used portrait painting as a carrier to integrate Western classical oil painting techniques with traditional Chinese aesthetic spirit,creating a new realm of Chinese oil painting.

As a first-hand witness and promoter of art education in New China,Mr.Jin has always regarded sketching as the foundation of artistic innovation.He personally experienced Xu Beihong's enlightenment ideal of "improving Chinese painting with realism", witnessed Dai Ze's construction of an art education system,and finally reconstructed the modeling language system in the wave of reform and opening up.From the scientific understanding of volumetric space in Maximov's training class to the modern interpretation of the flatness of classical painting in his later years, his sketching practice has always resonated with the reform of art education.

This exhibition displays more than 100 sketches from different periods on the axis of time, which not only reflects the overall appearance of Mr. Jin Shangyi's sketch creation,but also shows the changes of the times and the beauty of life through his sketch portraits.It fully demonstrates Mr.Jin Shangyi's lofty ideals for the times, the pure heart rooted in life, and the pursuit of excellence in artistic creation.

The holding of "My Way to Come - Jin Shangyi's Sketch Research Exhibition" hopes to provide reference and inspiration for the development of Shenzhen's art industry through Mr. Jin's artworks and educational concepts. Mr. Jin's artistic path tells us that artistic creation needs to be rooted in tradition, oriented to life, and requires continuous learning and innovation. Only by constantly improving artistic accomplishment can we create excellent works worthy of the times.

"The way to come" is not only a scale to look back at the wind and rain when it comes, but also a torch to illuminate the direction of the future. Mr. Jin has used his 70-year artistic career to prove that true innovation has never deviated from tradition, and that profound aesthetic education must take root in practice. It is hoped that this dialogue across time and space can inject the spiritual power of "casting the soul with beauty" into Shenzhen, a hot land of innovation, so that Chinese art can continue to write a new chapter of prosperity on the journey of integrity and innovation.
