Portrait of Catharine Carter Critcher

Catharine Carter Critcher

The only female member of the Taos Society of Artists, Catherine Carter Critcher established an art school in Paris in 1905, Cour Critcher, for American artists who had difficulty understanding French. Later, she returned to Washington, D.C., where she became an instructor at the Corcoran School of Art and opened the Critcher-Hill School of Art. She made her first trip to New Mexico in 1922, and subsequently spent summers there.Andrew L.
